Even longer yet

Wow, it's amazing how much it takes to write on a daily basis. Even as I writer myself, I have even more respect for the columnists who have to write a daily syndication. Here are a couple of the happening in our life:

My dad's mom moved to town
Addy's graduating in May
Evan's planning on school in Dallas

I've started writing a couple of other blogs:

Let me know what you think.

Long time coming

It's been a very long time since the last time I posted. So much has happened. Where to begin? How about where they always say, at the beginning?

The main culprit is that thing called work, followed very closely by family matters.

It's been a full first half of the year at the office. Between the various trips to Calgary and Conway, I've been managing a number of other small projects and one fairly large one.

We spent a week in Spain in May after Addy finished her study abroad trip. I'll be posting about that in the next couple of days.

Kelly and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary this year. I threw a surprise party for her to honor the accomplishment. In today's culture, a decade seems very monumental given the high divorce rate. Last September at my high school reunion I ran into a number of acquaintances who were on their third or fourth marriage. It went off without too much of a hitch. I'll be posting some photos and thoughts after the Spain trip.

Until later.

Bound to happen

Like most things, after the newness wears off, I have a tendency to move on to the next, latest thing. This definitely happened with the blogging. It was fun at the beginning to see how it worked and what I could do with it. After a couple of times of blogging, other things started to take precedence so it was shelved to the back burner with the rest of the planned projects I have.

The one thing in my life that hasn't lost it's newness is my marriage to Kelly and my life with the kids. Almost every morning I wake up excited about what's going to happen in our life. As anyone who has payed attention to our life, there's ALWAYS something happening. When we finally feel everything is settled, either something will come up or we'll bring it on ourselves, like deciding it's time to redo the master bedroom.

Oh well, such is our life.

Addy's Spanish Adventure

Well, she's settle in with her host family in Alcala. It was a bit of a nightmare getting her there. First was getting the student visa. We were told it could take up to eight weeks when the paperwork was turned in at the beginning of December so we were on pins and needles until they said it arrived December 21st. She had to fly to Houston on Wednesday, January 2nd to pick it up in person at the Spanish Consulate. She flew out Sunday the 6th and got to Madrid on Monday morning. After some confusion about getting from Madrid to Alcala, she made it to the host family. What a relief. The family doesn't have internet access at their house, so she'll only be able to get on at a cafe or the university. I'm going to see what other options might be available. I've set up a blog for her at http://addy.cakefamily.com and will be updating it for her until she has regular access.
